
Coach Rick Gyllenborg (white hat) and the Tritons women’s tennis team landed the program’s second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and its first national ranking after a 14-2 regular season.
Softball
UMSL had its weekend doubleheaders canceled due to the heavy rains. The Tritons end the regular season with a 35-13 record, including a 17-7 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Tritons will travel to East Peoria, Illinois, for the GLVC Tournament this weekend as the No. 3 seed. UMSL opens play at noon Thursday against No. 6 seed Illinois Springfield. The tournament runs Thursday through Sunday.
Baseball
The Tritons were swept by Missouri S&T in a four-game GLVC series. Junior Jake Morsch tallied 10 hits, while batting .714. He opened the series by going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and added two hits in each of the final three games. UMSL (15-27, 9-14 GLVC) wraps up the season this week with five home games. The Tritons welcome Southwest Baptist in nonconference play on Tuesday before hosting Drury Friday and Saturday in a four-game league series.
Women’s Golf
UMSL earned a runner-up finish at a rain-soaked GLVC Championships last weekend, combining for a team score of 593 (297-296) in the 36-hole tournament. Individually, junior Alexa Capesius tied for second, finishing one stroke shy of the medalist, with a career-low 145 (72-73). She earned All-GLVC honors along with junior teammate Stefaniya Ivanova, who tied for fifth with a total of 149 (73-76). UMSL will learn of its NCAA bid later today with the NCAA East Regional being held May 8-10 in Canton, Ohio.
Women’s Tennis
The Tritons landed their second-ever NCAA Tournament berth and will take on No. 14 Drury today in Midland, Michigan. UMSL enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-2 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in GLVC play, and last week received a national ranking for the first time ever, debuting at No. 49 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
